TAPS: Therapeutic Activation Program for Seniors

About TAPS

TAPS is a partnership between Valley Community Services, the Creston community, Interior Health, and United Way BC. TAPS provides opportunities for people to come together, engage in activities, participate in the community, access support, and take pleasure in life.

Approximately 60 men and women attend the TAPs program every week supported by 6 staff and 15 volunteers. The average age of TAPS participants is 83 years young.

In 2005, when the continuation of the TAPS program was at risk of closing, community volunteers championed the cause and VCS began to administer the program. The program was able to continue thanks to the generous donations from individuals, the Krafty Kronies, Lions Club, Rotary, Columbia Basin Trust, Community Gaming Grants, New Horizons for Seniors Grants, the Creston Credit Union. A small fee is charged for transportation to those who can afford it.

How is TAPS funded?
Since 2005, in the absence of core funding, the financial viability of TAPS has been sustained by Community Donors, Grants and Fundraising. We are grateful for the funders who have responded to our applications. The VCS Board, Administration and TAPS recognize the challenges for sustainability as an organization. We are proactive in our financial management, long term planning and advocacy. VCS insures 85% of funding goes directly to TAPS Programs.
